Camping with Mosquitos

On Thursday afternoon Dylan and I, along with Joe and Jen set off for Crater Lake. We had planned a camping trip for 2 nights. We had a reservation for Thursday night with the hopes of getting a site for Friday night too. When we go to the campsite there was not very many people there which was nice. We started to unload the car which was packed full.

As we started to get everything set up we realized that there were a million mosquitos. I am not talking about a few mosquitoes here and there. These mosquitos swarmed you. And we had forgotten bug spray. oops. The first night we enjoyed the campfire while trying to swat away mosquitos.


The next morning we got up at 4:50 and went to a spot at the top of the lake to watch the sun rise. This was very beautiful, but the mosquitos were at their worst. We got out to take pictures and I am not joking about 50 of them would surround you. We walked up this one trail to get a different view and as we were walking you could see about 15 just sitting on the person back in front of you. But it was worth seeing the sun come up. In this picture that Jen took you can actually see a mosquito in the picture.

When we got back we had a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs with sausage. It was tasty.
Then we had to figure out our campsite situation. The company that ran the campground was not very organized. They had 100 sites that were suppose to be open to people who walked up that day and wanted a site. So we figured that when we came on Thursday we could get a two day site. Well the people said that they were over booked and we would have to check back on Friday at 1 pm. This was because they had to wait until they could place the people who had reservations in spots and see what was left. The way they explained it did not make sense though. And you have to understand that there were 4 empty sites all around us. Well we went by in the morning just one last time and they gave us that same story. So we were afraid that we weren't going to be able to get one for Friday so we tried to find a site at another campsite. So we went to a spot that our cell phones would work, but none of the phone numbers worked. So we decided to drive to nearby diamond lake. So we drove to two campsites around that lake to see what was open and found those were full. I was tried and frustrated by then. We went back to crater lake and ask one more time. We got back to camp at about 11 and went up to the registration one more time and the lady said have you been to your campsite, I sent someone with a tag for you for tonight. At this moment I was excited and mad at the same time. I was excited to have another night and just be able to enjoy camping, but mad that them for not letting us just have it in the morning. And when we left Sat. the campsite around us were still empty.
